Types of Hearing Aids
There are four types of hearing aids available: completely in the ear canal, in the ear canal, in the ear, and behind the ear. The cause of your hearing loss, the type or hearing loss you have, and results of your hearing test will determine which hearing aid is best for you. It is not wise to choose a hearing aid based on looks because choosing the wrong one can damage your hearing further.
- Completely Inside the Ear Canal (CIC) is the smallest hearing aid available which rests completely inside the ear canal and is barely visible to those around you.
- Inside the Ear Canal (ITC) is a little bit larger than the CIC and rests in the middle of the ear canal, making it a little more visible to those around you.
- In the Ear (ITE) is the largest hearing aid for inside the ear which allows for better amplification of sound.
- Behind the Ear (BTE) is a device that sits behind the ear with a tube that runs into the ear canal. Children benefit most from this type of hearing aid.
Talking to a hearing aid specialist to discuss your hearing aid options will help you in selecting the one that is right for you.
